ALEX (2) SQUARED || UTAH WEDDING – SLEEPY RIDGE

It was fate that brought them together. Fate, and an empty seat at church. When their friendship kept turning into “I can’t wait to tell Alex this” they knew they had something special. It was an honor to be a part of Alexis Holman and Alex Bennett’s wedding day.

I met “Boy Alex” many, many years ago when I moved from Utah to Chicago and he was one of the boys on the back row of primary who COULDN’T WAIT to leave us and be a “grown up”. I’ve watched him grow, mature and become an amazing young man. Their family are some of my very favorite people.  The first time I talked to “Girl Alex” I knew we would be instant friends. We had so much in common, so much to talk about and we’ve both been through some hard things. I was SO excited when they asked me to fly to Utah to capture their special day. I love all of the personal touches they added, his A Squared cuff links, the Alexandria stones in her wedding band, and their awesome custom A2 Graphic.  I love that they shall hereafter be known as Alex Squared!

One of the gifts I offer my wedding couples is a complimentary engagement session. I do this for a couple of reasons. It helps me get to know the couple, and it gives me a chance to work with them before their big day. It also helps me to know their posing style, what they feel comfortable doing and which poses are the most flattering. It helps them get to know me and my style. I love being able to do this for my clients. Because their wedding was in Utah, I was only able to fly in one day early for their wedding. Alexis was AWESOME and agreed to get up super early to get her hair and makeup done and meet me at the temple for their first look, bridal portraits and bride and groom portraits the day before the wedding. I’m so glad we took the time to do these photos early. We were able to just relax and enjoy a few minutes together before the big day!! I highly recommend a first look for my wedding couples. I have many reasons why it’s a good idea, but getting to spend a few minutes by yourselves before the crazy day is my number one reason.

And their day was perfect in every way, friends and family all expressed how amazing they are and how much they love each other. During the toasts I was brought to tears as her father expressed his love and gratitude that he is still here with her to celebrate her wedding day. He has battled cancer more than once, and didn’t know if he would ever get to celebrate this day with his baby girl. Oh how it broke my heart that my own mamma isn’t here with me, but what a sweet and tender moment it was for Alexis and her father. It was my privilege to be included in their family luncheon.

The reception was a party of friends from all over the world at the beautiful Sleepy Ridge Reception Center in Orem, UT. They showed us their fun personalities, shared their love for music and dancing and enjoyed delicious red velvet cake with all of their guests.

Alex and Alexis, I had such a great time spending the day with you. You are both so kind, generous and giving. You are such examples of the good there is in the world. The joy and love you share radiated from both of you. It was an honor to get to know you and your families better and to work with you to capture your special day. Always remember which Alex is right and never forget that it’s probably not you.

I hope you enjoyed your adventures in Thailand and here is a sneak peek at your wedding gallery, I can’t wait to share the rest with you!
